Common use

Ranol SR (propranolol) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias), and chest pain (angina). It is also prescribed to prevent migraines, reduce the frequency of anxiety symptoms, and manage symptoms of hyperthyroidism. As a beta-blocker, Propranolol works by slowing the heart rate and reducing the heart's workload.

Dosage and direction

Swallow the medicine as a whole with water; do not crush, break or chew it.

Precautions

Before taking Ranol SR tablet, you should tell the doctor if you have any muscle disorder (myasthenia gravis, rhabdomyolysis), breathing problems (COPD, bronchitis, emphysema), low blood sugar level (hypoglycaemia), low blood pressure (hypotension), depression, previous heart failure, liver/kidney disease, thyroid hormone disorder, adrenal gland cancer or problems with circulation (Raynaud's syndrome).

Contraindications

Do not use Ranol SR if you have an allergic reaction (hypersensitivity) to any of its components.
Do not take Ranol SR if you consume alcohol. Due to a possible interaction, it may increase the chance of serious adverse effects.
You should not use Ranol SR if you have a very slow heartbeat, asthma, serious heart condition (sick sinus syndrome) or any heart blockage.
It should not be given to children less than 12 years of age. Also Ranol SR using it during pregnancy may not be safe.

Possible side effect

Side effects of Ranol SR: Tiredness; Weakness; Raynaud'S Phenomenon; Arrhythmia; Nausea; Vomiting; Diarrhoea.

Drug interaction

Ranol SR is not recommended to use any other beta-blockers (such as atenolol, acebutolol, bisoprolol, carteolol, esmolol, metoprolol, nadolol, nebivolol, or sotalol), other pain relievers, asthma medications (theophylline), or blood pressure medications (lisinopril, enalapril, diltiazem, prazosin, terazosin, doxazosin). Before using any prescription or over-the-counter medications, you must consult your doctor.

Missed dose

If you forget to take Ranol SR tablet at any time, take it as soon as you remember, then continue to take it at the usual times. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

Overdose

Do not take more than the prescribed dose of Ranol SR as it may cause overdose. The symptoms of overdose include slow heart rate, trembling, dizziness, seizures (fits) or difficulty breathing. If you suspect you have taken overdose or notice signs of overdose, please consult a doctor immediately.

Storage

Store Ranol SR in a cool and dry place away from sunlight. Keep away from children and pets.
